Why iot.cards for your M2M fleet in Spain

Native M2M SIMs, not recycled consumer SIMs

Designed for unattended devices: no inactivity expiry, no 90-day roaming cut-off, no manual top-ups. Can stay provisioned with zero traffic for months without the carrier deactivating them.

Four-carrier coverage in Spain

The SIM auto-attaches to the strongest available carrier (Telefónica, Vodafone, Orange, MásMóvil). If one network drops or loses signal, it switches to another IMSI without intervention. The difference between relying on a single footprint and eliminating the single point of failure.

Industrial form factors and solderable MFF2

2FF (Mini SIM), 3FF (Micro SIM), 4FF (Nano SIM) and MFF2 WLCSP solderable directly on PCB for OEM production. Industrial range -40 °C to +105 °C. Same IMSI and same plan regardless of form factor.

Private APN and static IP as add-ons

Dedicated APN with your CIDR range and an IPSec or WireGuard tunnel; static public or private IP per SIM. Available from your first unit, not gated as enterprise modules reserved for fleets of 500+ SIMs.

Portal and REST API for fleet operations

Activation, suspension, pause, top-up, plan change, monitoring and diagnostics from a single portal. Documented REST API with HMAC-signed webhooks and ICCID-keyed idempotency. Provision and operate the lifecycle without opening a ticket.

Engineering support in English (and Spanish)

Engineering team in Seville, reachable in English, Spanish and Portuguese by phone and email. Technical onboarding from your first deployment regardless of account size. Private APN, static IP, API integration and network diagnostics handled directly by engineering.

Carriers and M2M technologies in Spain

Spain is our home market since 2013. The SIM connects to the three national mobile networks with priority and fallback configurable per location, using M2M-specific profiles (not recycled consumer ones).

Carriers reachable

  • Movistar (Telefónica España)
  • Vodafone Spain
  • Orange Spain

M2M technologies available

2G GSM/GPRS4G LTE5G NSA/SALTE-M (Cat-M1)NB-IoT (Cat-NB1/NB2)

3G is being switched off progressively (Vodafone Spain completed sunset in 2024; Orange and Movistar are following their own calendars). For new deployments plan directly on 4G LTE / LTE-M / NB-IoT. LTE-M and NB-IoT availability depends on the carrier and area; request a SIM Test Kit to field-test technology by location before a bulk order.

Technical capabilities for M2M fleets

Beyond basic connectivity, the M2M SIM ships with the layers an industrial fleet needs:

Multi-IMSI tri-carrier

Single SIM with multiple IMSIs loaded; the modem evaluates by signal quality. IMSI switch without device reset. Per-SIM preference or exclusion rules from the portal or API.

Private APN

Dedicated APN with RFC1918 addressing, IPSec or WireGuard tunnel into your VPC and mutual authentication. Traceability by ICCID and PDP session. Available from the first SIM.

Frequently asked questions about M2M SIMs in Spain

Can the M2M SIM use any Spanish carrier, or just one?
Any of the four: Telefónica, Vodafone, Orange or MásMóvil. The SIM is not locked to a single carrier, so if your area has stronger coverage on one operator over another, the device automatically attaches to whichever has the best signal. No contract changes if a carrier later loses coverage in some deployment.
What's the difference between an M2M SIM and a consumer SIM?
M2M SIMs are designed for unattended devices: they don't expire on inactivity, don't get cut off after 90 days roaming, support flat per-MB tariffs with bundles pooled across devices, and allow REST-API lifecycle management. Consumer SIMs assume a human user (periodic verification, manual top-ups, permanent-roaming restrictions). Recycling consumer SIMs into industrial IoT deployments creates silent disconnects at the 90-day mark that you only notice when the device stops reporting.
What does "no permanent-roaming restriction" actually mean?
European consumer SIMs are subject, by BEREC regulation, to a fair-use mechanism that disconnects or passes through the visited-carrier cost after a few weeks of continuous use outside the issuing country. iot.cards M2M SIMs are issued with M2M-only profiles that aren't subject to that restriction: a device can spend 12 months outside Spain without the SIM expiring or being throttled. Useful for international fleets, long-term rental equipment and exported devices.
Which physical form factors are available?
2FF (Mini SIM, 25×15 mm), 3FF (Micro SIM, 15×12 mm), 4FF (Nano SIM, 12.3×8.8 mm) and solderable MFF2 WLCSP (5×6 mm, soldered directly on PCB). All four carry the same logical IMSI and the same assigned plan, which means you can move one identity from a 4FF prototype to MFF2 OEM production without re-provisioning. Industrial range -40 °C to +105 °C on MFF2.
Does it support NB-IoT and LTE-M in Spain?
Yes where the local carrier has them deployed. NB-IoT has improved a lot with Movistar and Vodafone in recent years, especially for smart metering. LTE-M is more widespread in cities and logistics corridors. To validate availability at a specific location before a bulk order, the fastest path is the SIM Test Kit (free shipping to Spain) and a field test: the modem reports which technology it negotiates and the link quality.
Is there lock-in or a minimum fee?
No. Each SIM is billed per usage or per its contracted tariff, with no lock-in and no monthly minimum. A provisioned SIM with no traffic generates no charge. Pause and reactivation are done from the portal or via API.
How do I bulk-provision SIMs via API?
The POST /sims endpoint accepts batches via CSV or JSON: per SIM, pass ICCID, plan, tags (vehicle plate, location, site) and optionally private APN or static IP. The API is idempotent on ICCID, returns a job_id for progress polling and emits HMAC-signed webhooks on completion. Full documentation at /plataforma/api.
Does it work outside Spain?
Yes. The M2M SIM roams on 750+ networks across 190+ countries, with no 90-day restriction. For European deployments the per-MB cost when roaming in EU/UK is similar to domestic; outside the EU tariffs are published by zone.
What's included in technical support?
Technical onboarding (coverage validation, APN setup, API integration) is free from the first SIM. Operational support thereafter is via email and phone in business-hours CET. For fleets with SLA or enterprise tariffs, 24/7 support with contractual response times.
How do I migrate from my current M2M provider without breaking operations?
Gradual migration: pilot 5-10 % of the fleet, validate KPIs (latency, availability, billing) and rotate as devices come up for maintenance. If your current private APN has specific addressing, we replicate it on the new infrastructure so the SCADA / TMS / VMS integration doesn't notice the change. Migration plan is sized during onboarding.
