4G/5G IoT SIM for video surveillance and IP cameras

Multi-carrier SIM with data bundles sized for IP cameras, mobile NVRs and 4G/5G video surveillance. Public or private static IP for stream pull from your VMS, optional dedicated APN for retail and critical, pooled data across cameras. Failover across Movistar, Vodafone and Orange so the camera never goes offline due to a single carrier's maintenance.

Why iot.cards for video surveillance

Bundles sized to the camera profile

An IP camera's consumption varies 100× between event-only telemetry + thumbnail and continuous H.264 1080p stream. We bill by real profile (light, event-driven, continuous stream) instead of forcing you into mobile-style bundles where you either overpay or hit unexpected overage charges.

Failover across three carriers

The camera attaches to the strongest of Movistar, Vodafone and Orange. If one network drops in a specific area, it switches without reset. Zero "camera offline" windows during a single carrier's maintenance — material for 24/7 perimeter surveillance and construction sites where stream loss has a cost.

Static IP for VMS pull

Public or private static IPv4 lets your video platform pull the RTSP/HLS stream from the camera (inbound access). For large deployments, private static IP inside a dedicated APN is the standard architecture; no exposed public IPs, no dynamic DNS, no per-camera VPN client.

5G where it's deployed

For 4K cameras or live event surveillance, 5G NSA/SA upload (where the local carrier has it deployed) changes the rules — real upload rates of 50–200 Mbps instead of the typical 10–30 Mbps of 4G LTE Cat-4. The SIM negotiates automatically; the modem decides.

Private APN for retail chains

For chains with 50+ stores, we provision a dedicated APN with your CIDR and an IPSec/WireGuard tunnel into your corporate DC. Each store's cameras reach your VMS without public-Internet traffic, simplify audit and meet GDPR/LOPD requirements better through minimized exposure.

Engineering support in English (and Spanish)

Engineering team in Seville with deployment experience across Hikvision, Dahua, Genetec, Milestone and Avigilon. Technical onboarding (coverage validation, bundle sizing, VMS configuration) from the first SIM. Operations support by phone and email.

Coverage for video surveillance in Spain

Spain with general 4G LTE coverage and 5G in urban areas and main roads. For cameras on construction sites, off-grid solar perimeter surveillance and mobile NVRs, the tri-carrier failover eliminates coverage gaps typical of a single footprint.

Carriers reachable

  • Movistar (Telefónica España)
  • Vodafone Spain
  • Orange Spain

For cameras with intensive upload (continuous 1080p or 4K stream), we recommend validating upload quality at the actual location with the SIM Test Kit (free shipping to Spain) first. The modem reports real upload throughput per technology and cell — very different from carrier marketing.

Technical capabilities for video surveillance

Beyond basic connectivity, the IoT SIM ships with the layers a professional video surveillance deployment needs:

Full connected-camera architecture

Static IP for stream access

Static public or private IPv4 per SIM, persistently assigned. Lets your VMS pull the RTSP/HLS stream from the camera and simplifies corporate firewall rules.

Private APN for retail and critical

Dedicated APN with your CIDR and IPSec/WireGuard tunnel into your DC. For retail chains with 50+ stores or critical surveillance, prevents camera streams from traversing the public Internet.

Pooled data across cameras

Pooled data bundle across all of a customer's cameras. Cameras with events compensate cameras in standby. No overage costs from individual cameras going over budget.

Typical use cases in video surveillance

  • Fixed IP cameras on construction sites (restricted access, perimeter)
  • Mobile NVR in vehicles (cash transit, escort)
  • Off-grid solar perimeter surveillance
  • Multi-store retail with national chain
  • Municipal cameras (traffic, public spaces)
  • Temporary event surveillance (fairs, concerts)
  • Private security body cams
  • Traffic cameras and ANPR (license plates)
  • Premium residential security home automation

Pricing and lock-in

No lock-in. No minimum monthly fee per SIM. Three tariffs depending on camera profile and deployment size:

Light camera bundle

Telemetry + thumbnail on event + clip on demand. For surveillance with stream only on alarm. Bundles sized per typical event.

Continuous stream bundle

Per-camera bundle sized for 1080p H.265 stream with retention. For active surveillance where VMS pulls 24/7.

Enterprise multi-camera

Pooled bundle across all customer cameras + dedicated private APN + private static IP per camera. For retail chains, critical surveillance and deployments with 50+ cameras.

Frequently asked questions about IoT SIMs for video surveillance

How many GB does a typical IP camera consume per month?
Depends on the profile. A camera with continuous H.265 1080p at 2 Mbps consumes ~650 GB/month (24×7); H.264 1080p at 4 Mbps, ~1.3 TB/month. For event-driven surveillance (recording + thumbnail only on motion detection), consumption drops to 5–50 GB/month depending on event frequency. For 4K, multiply by 3–4. Before locking the bundle, the important thing is to measure real bitrate with the camera configured as in production.
Public or private static IP for my VMS?
If your VMS is public cloud (Hikvision Hik-Connect, Dahua DMSS, etc.), public static IP per camera is the norm. If your VMS is on-prem or private cloud, private static IP inside a dedicated APN is more secure and usually cheaper. For large deployments, private static IP + private APN is the standard architecture.
Does it support 5G in Spain?
Yes, 5G NSA and SA (rolling out). For 4K cameras or live event surveillance where 4G LTE upload doesn't make it, 5G offers real upload rates of 50–200 Mbps vs the typical 10–30 Mbps of Cat-4. The SIM negotiates automatically; depends on the modem and the 5G coverage in the specific cell.
Do RTSP streams work with this SIM?
Yes. RTSP, RTMP, HLS and SRT work transparently over the IoT SIM. The relevant consideration isn't the protocol but: (1) whether the VMS needs to initiate pull (you need static IP so the camera is reachable), or (2) whether the camera pushes to a central server (no static IP needed; just enough coverage and data bundle).
Is there throttling after X GB?
Not by default. Bundle plans allow continuous consumption until the bundle is exhausted; behavior on exhaustion is configured per SIM (cut, continue at pay-as-you-go, alert to portal). For 24/7 surveillance the recommendation is a pooled plan well-sized to real aggregate, not the cheapest plan with cut-off risk.
Pooled data across cameras?
Yes, on pooled plans. Data bundle is contracted per customer (e.g., 5 TB/month for 30 cameras) and shared: cameras with events consume more, quiet cameras compensate. Avoids overages from individual cameras going over budget or underutilized cameras.
Private APN for retail chain?
Yes. For retail chains with 50+ stores, we provision a dedicated APN with your CIDR (RFC1918) and IPSec/WireGuard tunnel into your corporate DC or on-prem VMS. Each store's cameras reach the VMS directly, without public-Internet traffic — material for GDPR/LOPD audit and to reduce attack surface.
Failover across carriers?
Yes, automatic. The SIM carries multiple IMSIs (Movistar, Vodafone, Orange in Spain); the modem evaluates signal quality and attaches to the best. If the active network drops or the camera moves to an area with worse coverage, it switches without device reset. Preference rules ("Movistar first, Vodafone fallback, don't use Orange") are configured per SIM from the portal.
Cloud camera backup included?
Cloud backup is provided by the VMS (Hikvision Hik-Connect, Dahua DMSS, Genetec Stratocast, etc.), not the SIM. The SIM provides connectivity so the VMS can meet its retention policy. What we do: size the plan accounting for the VMS upload pattern so backup works without cuts or unexpected overages.
