IoT connectivity in United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates has two national operators (e& — formerly Etisalat — and du) with one of the world's densest 5G rollouts and 4G LTE across virtually all inhabited territory; 2G and 3G have been shut down since 2022. NB-IoT and LTE-M are deployed by both operators. The TDRA regulator restricts permanent roaming: the multi-network roaming SIM serves pilots, temporary projects, and assets transiting the Gulf, while permanent deployments move to an eSIM (eUICC) local profile. Our UAE commercial page details networks, rules, and use cases.
Accessible operators
- Etisalat UAE
- du
Available technologies
Typical use cases
- Logistics and containers in Jebel Ali (JAFZA) and Dubai South
- Construction machinery telematics
- Pharma and food cold chain
- Oil and gas telemetry in Abu Dhabi
- Smart city and connected buildings
- Solar monitoring (MBR Solar Park)
Caveats and regulatory considerations
- Permanent roaming restricted by TDRA — permanent deployments require an eSIM local profile
- 2G and 3G shut down since 2022 — 4G/5G/LPWA devices only
- NB-IoT/LTE-M availability varies by area — validate per site during the pilot
- Heat, coastal humidity and dust: use the industrial MFF2 form factor (-40 °C to +105 °C) outdoors
